Mecklenburg County Schools Receive Region VIII Creating Excellence Group and Individual Award

             The Virginia Department of Education recently recognized several area teachers, organizations, and individuals by presenting them with the 2009 Creating Excellence Awards for the regions and state. Several Mecklenburg County Public Schools teachers and staff including Shelia Beck – Google Implementation Specialist, Karen Osborne – Business teacher at Bluestone High School, Chrystal Harris – Business teacher at Park View High School, Remona Tomko and Stephanie Carter – Technology Resource Teachers  were the group winners for Region 8 and they were recognized for their participation in a Google collaboration project entitled “Google It! Connecting and Collaborating with Google Docs in CTE”. In addition, Christopher Clarke, Marketing Teacher at Park View High School, was recognized as the Region 8 Individual Winner for his project entitled “Collaborating, Team Building, and Competition in a Global Economy: The Marketing Championship Series”.
 
            Creating Excellence Award winners were presented their awards at a dinner held at the 2009 Virginia Career and Technical Education Summer Professional Development Institute which was sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and Career and Technical Education Professional Organizations. Dr. Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction,Virginia Department of Education introduced the Honorable Timothy M. Kaine, Governor of Virginia, and he spoke of the importance of Career and Technical Education within the schools and the value of industry credentialing.
